Venetia Berry
Brixton based artist Venetia Berry paints the nude female figure through an abstract lens, simplifying the form using pure line.
From her first exhibition ‘Platform’ at The Strand Gallery in 2014, Berry has risen to the forefront of a strong line of artists redefining the perception of womanhood.
Her colourful figures hold a dreamlike aura. She aims to reverse the male gaze, challenging the archetypical sexualised female nude, by bringing a fresh perspective to play. Berry’s distorted and elongated forms play with feelings of illusion and trickery. There is an ambiguity to her work that invites the viewers’ imagination and own interpretation.
From Thursday 29th March to Wednesday 30th June 2018, Berry will exhibit a series of paintings, etchings, sketches and one of a kind ceramics.
‘Modern Society is a beautiful space and the team have such a great eye, I’m thrilled to be collaborating with them, enjoying exploring a new medium in the process.’ Venetia Berry
For London Craft Week, Modern Society have teamed up with Berry for a one off collaborative event. From 12pm to 2pm on Sunday 13th May, the artist will be in store producing one of a kind ceramics exclusive to Modern Society. Each hand painted creation will be commissioned and sold on a first come first serve basis. Available in store and online.
